Argentina and Brazil leads the development of biofuels for aviation

Argentina and Brazil to lead the development of biofuels for aviation

Ger

In early December 2010 the first Airbus A320 took off using a fuel mixed with bio-kerosene . Initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and oil consumption have come to the aviation industry and both Brazil and Argentina are leading the development of fuel production friendly with the environment.

Biocombustibles para la industria aeronáutica

The TAM Airlines A320 flew with a 50% mixture of aviation kerosene (Jet A) and 50% of Brazilian bio-kerosene, obtained from Jatropha

, a seed that has up to 40% oil, versus 34% average is most known plants. The Jatropha resist pests and drought, as well as being toxic for human consumption, eliminating the dispute using food to produce biofuels.

The A320, powered by two CFM56 turbine off from the International Airport of Rio de Janeiro and was 45 minutes in the air. The trip was authorized and approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency and the Agency National Civil Aviation of Brazil.

In Argentina, we have the company of Chubut

Biofuels, which several years ago is marking a step in the production of biofuels for air travel, using as raw material. The company has operational bases in Puerto Madryn and Comodoro Rivadavia, where is the distillation of biodiesel and bio-kerosene. Biofuels

Chubut microalgae chosen because:

Its high productivity per unit area / volume.
  • decline was harvested daily logistics and storage costs.
  • Plantable land is not needed.
  • drinking water is not needed.
  • decouple the relationship allows food / fuel. Great
  • natural variability: more than 50,000 species with different strains.
addition, its performance is 45 times higher than that of Jatropha and almost 200 times that of the soybean.

On June 9, the international consortium of world's No. 1 air navigation, EADS (owner of Airbus and Eurocopter) marked a milestone in aviation history by flying the first plane

the world with an engine fueled with biofuel produced from 100% algae oil.

Chubut thus became the number one company in the world oil export microalgae, giant EADS to provide the volume necessary to make all flight tests and demonstration flights successfully supplement the international aviation exhibition ILA 2010.

BC is about to open a plant in Brazil to produce about 4,100 tons of biofuel (biodiesel - biokerosene) designed to supply a fleet of helicopters from the Brazilian army.

look forward to hearing from the success of the visionaries who have made a dream of many years, produce energy from the most unthinkable. I'm proud, as an engineer and as Chubut to see that this company has jumped into the international level and is working inch by inch with giants like Airbus in developing the forefront of the aeronautics industry.
